Episode 92 - When Your Culture Ruins Your DEI Initiatives - A Case Study
Monday Jul 10, 2023
Monday Jul 10, 2023
You’ve probably heard the saying “when one door closes another one opens”, but for a significant percentage of the population, there are people who don’t want the doors open at all or want to make the opening as narrow as possible.
Hello everyone and welcome to episode 92 of the Resilient Journey podcast presented by the Resilience Think Tank. This week I’m joined by my good friend Vince Davis as we take a look at what happens when an organization tries to execute a DEI initiative but doesn’t have the internal culture in place to get it done. It’s a case study involving the IAEM in the US.
Vince tells us where the wheels fell off and why he’s tired. From my perspective, this isn’t an indictment of IAEM as much as it is a lesson for all of us who want to be an ally for diversity and a warning for those who are only going through the motions.

Music plays a large part in this week’s episode of the Resilient Journey, so I will quote an old Three Dog Night song that says, “One is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do. Two can be as bad as one, it’s the loneliest number since the number one.”
Hello everyone and welcome to episode 88 of the Resilient Journey podcast presented by the Resilience Think Tank. This week I’m pleased to be joined by the three other Managing Partners of the Resilience Think Tank, James Green, Lisa Jones and Milena Maneva.
This is another fun episode as we talk about the importance of being connected, the attributes of a resilient leader and I ask each one what song they would choose to be played when they walk into a room.
We’ll talk about a sense of community and why emotional intelligence matters.

Monday Jun 05, 2023
Monday Jun 05, 2023
Okay, let’s see if we understand how podcasts work. I have a guest on – I ask them questions, they answer the questions, we spin off into follow up chatter and the whole thing works perfectly. Until today. This week’s guest has turned the tables on me.
Hello everyone and welcome to episode 87 of the Resilient Journey podcast presented by the Resilience Think Tank. This week, I've my my match as I’m joined by my new friend Yolanda – Yoyo Hamblen.
The wheels fell off this week’s episode before I asked my first question as Yoyo told me that she really didn’t like to be interviewed. And since she has her own podcast, she decided to interview me back during the same interview. All of that said, it’s entertaining and valuable as we talk about resilience, mental health and the importance of community.
I’m not sure what else to say – have a listen. This is Yoyo Hamblen.

Hey resilience people, tell me if this sounds familiar. Programs that aren’t mature, assessing and building roadmaps. Executing the roadmaps with small teams and few resources. What if I told you this is life in the cyber world too?

In this week’s episode, Michael explains what goes on over in the cyber world, the importance of including multiple disciplines – including resilience in your cyber response.
And at near the end of the episode Michael explains how artificial intelligence could be our worst nightmare when it comes to phishing and other exploits.

Monday May 15, 2023

One of the things that the Resilience Think Tank is focused on, is helping our colleagues expand their knowledge into disciplines that are associated with resilience. Cyber is one of those disciplines. And who better to learn from than a world-class CISO.
Hello everyone, welcome to episode 84 - as the Resilience Think Tank presents the Resilient Journey podcast! Today I’m joined by Chief Information Security Officer Greg Rogers.
In this week’s episode, I ask questions that my clients are always asking me. Does paying ransom make you a more likely target in the future? How often do decryption keys actually work? And when it comes to the role of the CISO – is that a technical position or a leadership role?
Greg explains exactly what keeps him up at night.
